The third-seeded Sandhills Community College Flyers delivered a dominant performance Saturday afternoon, rolling past second-seeded Oxford College of Emory University, 98–70, in the NJCAA Region 10 semifinal.
With the win, the Flyers advance to the Region 10 Championship game, where they will face Virginia Peninsula on Sunday, February 22 at 1 p.m.
Sandhills set the tone early, racing out to a 52–32 halftime lead behind efficient shooting and balanced scoring. The Flyers continued to control the tempo in the second half, outscoring Oxford 46–38 to secure the 28-point victory.
Titus Cunningham led the way with a game-high 24 points, shooting an efficient 10-of-16 from the floor and 4-of-7 from three-point range while adding seven rebounds and three steals. Zack Noel recorded a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds, anchoring a dominant effort on the glass.
The Flyers outrebounded Oxford 53–27 and piled up 17 offensive boards, creating consistent second-chance opportunities. Sandhills also shared the ball exceptionally well, finishing with 30 assists on 38 made field goals.
Mylon Campbell contributed 12 points, 10 rebounds, and five assists in a strong all-around performance. Nysheed Williams added 12 points off the bench, while Isaiah Upchurch chipped in nine. Randy Dockery controlled the offense with seven assists and committed no turnovers in nearly 22 minutes of action.
Defensively, the Flyers limited Oxford to just 40.9 percent shooting from the field and 2-of-23 (8.7 percent) from beyond the arc, taking away one of the 2-seed's primary scoring threats. Leo Etah led Oxford with 27 points, but Sandhills' depth and defensive pressure proved too much over 40 minutes.
Now, the Flyers turn their focus to championship Sunday. Sandhills will take on Virginia Peninsula at 1 p.m. today with the Region 10 title and an automatic berth to the District Championship on the line.
