The Sandhills Community College men's basketball team dropped a 93–73 decision to Caldwell Community College & Technical Institute on Saturday afternoon at home.
Caldwell jumped out to an early lead and took a 38–32 advantage into halftime. The Flyers battled throughout the first half, staying within striking distance behind strong rebounding and balanced scoring, but Caldwell's efficiency from the floor began to create separation after the break.
The visitors outscored Sandhills 55–41 in the second half, using a combination of perimeter shooting and trips to the free-throw line to steadily extend the margin. Caldwell finished the game shooting 46.3 percent from the field and knocked down 10 three-pointers while converting 21 of 30 attempts at the foul line.
Sandhills showed resilience on the glass, outrebounding Caldwell 50–39, including 19 offensive boards, which helped create second-chance opportunities. Nylikk Troutman led the Flyers with 17 points on 6-of-11 shooting, adding seven rebounds and three three-pointers off the bench. Titus Cunningham followed with 10 points and five rebounds, while Cristian Sias posted a solid all-around performance with nine points and a team-high nine rebounds. Kendall Smith contributed eight points and three assists, and Isaiah Upchurch added seven points.
Despite the rebounding edge and 19 assists as a team, turnovers and cold shooting proved costly for the Flyers, who shot 37.3 percent from the field in the loss.
Sandhills will hit the road for its next contest on Wednesday night at Davidson-Davie Community College with tipoff set for 7 p.m. The Flyers return home on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m. to host Flight 22 Prep.
