Sandhills Tops Camp, 86–79, Behind Balanced Scoring Effort
The Sandhills Community College Flyers earned an 86–79 road victory over Camp Community College on Sunday afternoon (Jan. 11), pulling away late after a tightly contested first half.
Sandhills led 42–36 at the break and matched that output in the second half, scoring 44 points over the final 20 minutes to hold off Camp's comeback attempt. The Flyers shot an efficient 48.3% from the field and knocked down 12 three-pointers while converting 16-of-20 attempts from the free-throw line.
The Flyers received a strong lift from their bench, which accounted for 64 points. Kendall Smith led all scorers with 18 points, connecting on 4-of-6 attempts from beyond the arc. Titus Cunningham added 13 points, while Zori Island and Zack Noel each finished with 12. Noel also posted a dominant performance on the glass, pulling down 15 rebounds to go along with three assists.
Isaiah Upchurch chipped in 10 points and four assists, and the Flyers showed good ball movement overall, totaling 17 assists on 29 made field goals. Defensively, Sandhills recorded four blocks and made key stops down the stretch to secure the win.
The Flyers now return home for a three-game homestand in January at Dempsey Student Center. Sandhills will host Patrick & Henry Community College on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 6:00 p.m., followed by a matchup against Virginia Peninsula Community College on Friday, Jan. 16 at 7:00 p.m. The homestand concludes on Sunday, Jan. 18 at 3:00 p.m. when the Flyers welcome Cleveland Community College.
