Flyers Finish Strong at Milledgeville Invitational
The Sandhills Flyers wrapped up play at the Milledgeville Invitational, hosted by Georgia Military College, with a second-round surge to finish first overall in the team standings.
Sandhills followed up an opening round 288 with a 287 on day two to post a two-day total of 575, finishing 22 strokes ahead of Georgia Military College (597) as well as USC Sumter A (622) and Brewton-Parker (NTS – incomplete second round).
The story of the tournament for the Flyers was the consistent play at the top of the lineup.
Wyatt Beaver delivered one of the best performances of the event, backing up his opening 68 with a 69 to finish at 137 (-7), good for runner-up honors individually.
Vegas Melen followed his opening 68 with a 74 to finish at 142, while Will Dement (77-71) and Trace Wallace (75-73) both closed strong to finish tied at 148. Sebastian Haug added a two-day total of 153.
Georgia Military College was paced by Gavin Gilliatt (72-72, 144) and Riley Campbell (74-73, 147), while USC Sumter's Axel Stalhgren claimed medalist honors with rounds of 66 and 69 for a tournament-low 135.
The Flyers showed depth and consistency over both rounds and will look to build on this momentum heading into The Stitch Golf Flyers Invitaional in two weeks. The Stitch Golf Invitational will take place at Longleaf Golf and Family Club on Sunday March 15th and Monday March 16th.
