Flyers Lead After Two Rounds at “Rodeo at the Ridge”

The Sandhills Community College golf team surged to the top of the leaderboard through two rounds of Fayetteville State University's "Rodeo at the Ridge" tournament, held at Quail Ridge Country Club. The Flyers sit in first place at +9 overall, five strokes ahead of Winston-Salem State heading into Tuesday's final round.

Sophomore Wyatt Beaver has been outstanding for Sandhills, carding rounds of 70 and 66 to move to 8-under par and claim the individual lead by three shots. Teammate Michael Switzer is inside the top five after posting rounds of 71 and 73 (E), while Trace Wallace is just one shot back at +1 following a steady two days (71–74).

Sophomore Vegas Melen (+6), Robert Reed (+12), and Sebastian Haug (+14) rounded out the team's scoring, helping the Flyers distance themselves from a crowded field of NCAA Division II programs.

The Flyers' consistency has been the difference, with Sandhills producing three rounds under par in the second round to widen its cushion.

Also in the field are two familiar names for Flyers fans: Landon Cabingas (Fayetteville State) and Connor Lineberry (Winston-Salem State), both former Sandhills standouts now competing at four-year schools. Cabingas sits at +10, while Lineberry is at +8 through 36 holes.

The final round is set for Tuesday at Quail Ridge, where Sandhills will look to close out its second tournament victory of the fall season.
