Flyers Open Play at Milledgeville Invitational

The Sandhills Flyers opened competition at the Milledgeville Invitational, hosted by Georgia Military College at The Club at Lake Sinclair, with a strong first-round showing on Monday.

Sandhills posted a team score of 288 in the opening round, placing them in the lead heading into day two.

Leading the way for the Flyers were Vegas Melen and Wyatt Beaver. Melen fired a two-under-par 68. His steady play set the tone early and put him near the top of the individual leaderboard.

Wyatt Beaver also turned in an impressive round with a 68, matching Melen's low score for the team.

Trace Wallace added a solid 75, while Will Dement and Sebastian Haug each carded 77s to round out the Sandhills lineup.

In the individual competition, Drake Hull shot an even-par 72, positioning himself well entering the second round.

Georgia Military College sits in second on the team leaderboard after round one with a 301, followed by USC Sumter A at 309, and Brewton-Parker at 316.

The Flyers will return to the course Tuesday looking to build on a strong opening performance and climb the leaderboard at The Club at Lake Sinclair.
