Flyers Stay on Top Through Two Rounds at NJCAA National Championship
Chautauqua, NY — Despite swirling afternoon winds and the challenge of a late tee time, the Sandhills Community College men's golf team weathered the conditions and held firm to their lead after day two of the NJCAA DIII National Championship.
The Flyers posted a second-round team score of +6, bringing their tournament total to +4 overall. That effort keeps them in 1st place, 18 shots ahead of second-place Georgia Military College (+22) and 32 ahead of third-place DuPage (+36).
Vegas Melen continues to set the pace for Sandhills, carding a -1 in Round Two to move into solo first place at -4 overall. Wyatt Beaver, who opened with a tournament-best 68 on Day One, fought tough afternoon winds and posted a +2 to sit in second place at -2.
Landon Cabingas bounced back with an even-par 72, improving six spots on the leaderboard and finishing the day tied for fourth at +3. William Mitchell added a +5 round, while Evan Cowell finished at +8 on the day.
The Flyers' depth continues to show, with three players inside the top 6 individually.
