Flyers Hold Their Own in Strong Field at Cutter Creek Invitational
The Sandhills Community College men's golf team wrapped up the second round of the Cutter Creek Invitational on Tuesday, holding their own against a field stacked with Division I programs. The Flyers sit in a tie for 11th place with Robert Morris at 23-over par after posting a team score of 10-over in round two.
At the top of the leaderboard, Campbell (-18) continues to dominate the tournament, with East Carolina (-11) following close behind. Harvard (-2) rounds out the top three, while the Flyers find themselves just a few strokes back of Presbyterian (+17) and North Carolina A&T (+18) heading into the final round.
Sandhills was once again led by William Mitchell, who delivered a standout performance with a 3-under 69. His steady play kept the Flyers in contention, providing a bright spot in an otherwise challenging round for the team. Vegas Melen also showed resilience, carding a 2-over 74, while Landon Cabingas (78), Evan Cowell (80), and Wyatt Beaver (81) battled through the demanding conditions of Cutter Creek Golf Club.
Despite facing stiff competition, Sandhills has remained competitive. The team will look to finish strong in the final round, hoping to climb the leaderboard and make a statement against their Division I counterparts. With one round to go, the Flyers are within striking distance of a top-10 finish—an impressive feat in a tournament featuring established programs from across the country
