Flyers Take Top Spot at Don Scalf

Flyers Take Top Spot at Don Scalf

The Sandhills Community College men's golf team kicked off their fall season in impressive fashion, claiming victory at the Don Scalf Memorial, hosted by NC Wesleyan at Belmont Lake Golf Club in Rocky Mount, NC. The Flyers dominated the event, finishing at 3-under-par, well ahead of the second-place NC Wesleyan [A] team, which ended with a total of +20.

Leading the way for Sandhills was Vegas Melen, who delivered a stellar performance to secure second place individually. Melen finished at 3-under-par for the tournament, with a consistent showing of even par in round one followed by a 3-under in round two.

Landon Cabingas and Connor Lineberry also had notable showings, each finishing the tournament at even par, tied for third place. Both players demonstrated poise across both rounds, contributing significantly to Sandhills' overall team performance.

Evan Cowell rounded out the Flyers' top finishes, landing in a tie for seventh at +3, while Wyatt Beaver's +4 effort was good for ninth. Despite some ups and downs, Beaver's second-round 2-under-par helped solidify the team's dominant lead.

Sandhills Community College's collective efforts outclassed the competition, setting the tone for what promises to be an exciting fall golf season.
