Flyers Sweep Doubleheader on Sophomore Day
The Sandhills Community College Flyers celebrated Sophomore Day with a pair of victories over Wake Technical Community College on Wednesday afternoon at the Sandhills beach courts.
Prior to the matches, the Flyers honored sophomores Katelyn Bunting, Jacque Holden, Emery Freeman, Kennedy Koziarz, Anyssia Mains, and Reagan Smith for their contributions to the program.
In the opening match, Sandhills secured a 4-1 victory behind strong performances across the lineup. Brooke Emore and Olivia Rosy set the tone in the top flight with a 22-20, 21-17 win over Madison Fisher and Autumn Dukawicz. Reagan Malpass and Katelyn Bunting followed with a 21-14, 21-19 victory in the twos against Kendall Backholm and Mary Barnes. The threes pair of Taylor Miller and Jaselyn Fink controlled their match with a 21-7, 21-13 win over Alexa Hernandez and Jenna Carlson. Wake Tech picked up its lone point in the fours, where Daisy Yoon and Isabella Perez edged Alyssa Ingle and Emery Freeman in three sets. Jacque Holden and Reagan Smith closed out the team win with a 21-14, 21-12 victory in the fives. In exhibition play, Kennedy Koziarz and Anyssia Mains rallied for a three-set win.
The Flyers carried that momentum into match two, earning a 3-2 victory to complete the doubleheader sweep. Autumn Dukawicz and Madison Fisher edged Emore and Rosy in the ones. Sandhills responded in the twos with Reagan Malpass and Katelyn Bunting earning a 21-10, 21-15 win over Barnes and Backholm, while Taylor Miller and Jaselyn Fink added another point with a 21-15, 21-16 victory in the threes. The deciding point came in the fives, where Jacque Holden and Reagan Smith secured a 21-16, 21-13 win over Skylar Bakowski and Morgan Barnes. Wake Tech's second point came in the fours, as Perez and Yoon defeated Ingle and Freeman. In exhibition play, Averi Cuddeback and Nevaeh Ross earned a straight-set win for Sandhills.
