Sandhills Sweeps Wake Tech in Road Doubleheader
The Sandhills Community College Flyers picked up a strong doubleheader sweep over Wake Technical Community College Eagles at Carolina Legacy Volleyball Club in Rolesville, North Carolina, earning a 4-1 win in match one followed by a 5-0 sweep in match two.
In the opening match, the Flyers were tested early but secured a 4-1 victory. The top pair of Brooke Emore and Olivia Rosy battled through a three-set match to defeat Madison Fisher and Autumn Dukawicz 21-19, 20-22, 15-8. Katelyn Bunting and Reagan Malpass handled the twos flight with a 21-15, 21-15 win over Kendall Backholm and Mary Barnes. Wake Tech claimed its lone point in the threes, where Alexa Hernandez and Jenna Carlson edged Taylor Miller and Jaselyn Fink 21-17, 22-20. Sandhills responded with strong finishes in the bottom flights, as Emery Freeman and Alyssa Ingle defeated Daisy Yoon and Isabella Perez 21-14, 21-12, and Reagan Smith and Jacque Holden dominated Morgan Barnes and Karla Vazquez 21-9, 21-4. In exhibition play, Kennedy Koziarz and Olivia Bowman split sets with Cheyenne Yester and Michelle Miller.
The Flyers carried momentum into match two, completing the sweep with a 5-0 win. Emore and Rosy set the tone with a 21-11, 21-19 victory over Dukawicz and Fisher. Malpass and Bunting followed with a 21-19, 21-15 win against Barnes and Backholm. In the threes, Jaselyn Fink and Taylor Miller turned the tables with a 21-17, 21-19 victory over Carlson and Hernandez. Alyssa Ingle paired with Giannie Small in the fours to defeat Perez and Yoon 21-10, 21-15. Smith and Holden closed out the sweep with a 21-8, 21-15 win over Vazquez and Morgan Barnes, while Bowman and Koziarz capped the day with a 21-14, 21-19 exhibition victory over Yester and Michelle Miller.
Sandhills returns to action today, March 25, hosting Southern Virginia University, before closing out the home schedule on April 1 against Wake Tech for Sophomore Day.
