The Sandhills Community College Flyers battled through a long day of volleyball Saturday, defeating Caldwell Community College and Technical Institute 3–2 before falling to USC Sumter 3–1 in the afternoon match.
The Flyers opened the day with a hard-fought Region 10 victory over the host Cobras (25–21, 21–25, 25–17, 22–25, 15–8). The win pushed Sandhills to 4–0 in Region 10 play and kept them atop the conference standings ahead of Caldwell (2–2), Patrick & Henry (1–2), and Central Carolina (1–3).
Against Caldwell, Brooke Emore led the offense with 16 kills, while Katelyn Bunting and Taylor Miller each added nine. Madison Scheffler was highly efficient at the net, finishing with four kills on a .364 hitting percentage and five solo blocks. Averi Cuddeback guided the attack with 29 assists and chipped in two aces. Libero Olivia Rosy anchored the defense with 30 digs as Sandhills earned its 25th win of the season.
In the second match of the day, Sandhills took on a strong USC Sumter team that sits atop the NJCAA Region 10 Division I standings at 14–5. The Flyers battled through long rallies but fell 3–1 (16–25, 23–25, 25–21, 17–25). Emore again led the way with 12 kills and 22 digs, while Bunting added nine kills and two aces. Scheffler continued her steady play with five kills and three blocks, and Cuddeback tallied 25 assists.
The Flyers (25–2, 4–0 Region 10) now return home for three matches next week in The Hangar.
On Monday at 6 p.m., the Flyers host Richard Bland College for Pink Out Night, sponsored by Captured by Cassidy Photography. Cassidy, a Sandhills volleyball alum, becomes the first former player to sponsor a gameday, marking a special milestone for the program.
On Wednesday at 7 p.m., Sandhills welcomes Central Carolina Community College for a Region 10 matchup and the team's annual Green Out for Mental Health awareness night.
Finally, on Saturday at 12 p.m., the Flyers celebrate Sophomore Day, honoring their second-year players in a Region 10 clash against USC Lancaster, sponsored by AC Sandhills.
With the postseason on the horizon, the Flyers will look to build on their unbeaten conference record and continue their strong play in front of a home crowd.
