Flyers Sweep Central Carolina on the Road
The No. 2-ranked Sandhills Community College Flyers bounced back in a big way Wednesday night, sweeping Central Carolina Community College 3–0 (25–18, 25–13, 25–8) on the road in Sanford, NC.
The Flyers (16–1) controlled the match from start to finish, hitting an impressive .338 as a team. Sandhills tallied 36 kills, 9 service aces, and 7.5 team blocks in the win.
Freshman middle blocker Madison Scheffler provided a standout performance, recording 10 kills on a .833 hitting percentage along with 3 solo blocks. After the match, Scheffler credited both her mindset and the team's collective approach: "Today I really focused on being more confident in myself and when making a mistake just to shake it off and stay positive. As a team we set a goal to try and keep the other team from getting on a run and scoring more than 3 points in a row, so I think that helped us focus. We all stayed positive and everyone was super encouraging to each other."
Brooke Emore added 14 kills while hitting .400 and picked up 6 digs. Katelyn Bunting chipped in 7 kills at a .500 clip and 2 blocks, while setter Reagan Malpass dished out 20 assists to pace the Flyers' offense.
With the sweep, Sandhills improves to 16–1 on the season. The Flyers return to action Saturday with a doubleheader on the road at Pitt Community College, facing the Bulldogs at 12 PM and 2 PM.
