The Sandhills Community College Flyers opened play at the Owens Invitational in dominant fashion, sweeping both Terra State and Lorain County Community College on Friday.
Match 1: Sandhills 3, Terra State 0
Set Scores: 25-10, 25-14, 25-19
The Flyers controlled the tempo from start to finish in their first match of the day. Sandhills spread the offense effectively, led by Brooke Emore with 7 kills and a solo block. Liz Bryson added 6 kills on a .400 hitting percentage, while Reagan Smith provided a spark with 5 kills and a .455 efficiency.
Setter Averi Cuddeback ran the offense with 12 assists and added 5 aces from the service line. Reagan Malpass contributed 8 assists and 2 aces, while Giannie Small chipped in 4 aces and 3 digs. At the net, Katelyn Bunting posted 3 kills and 2 blocks, while Madison Scheffler recorded a block solo.

Sandhills faced a tougher test in their second match but closed out a competitive third set to complete the sweep. Brooke Emore led the way with a match-high 12 kills and 12 digs, hitting .233 while adding 4 aces for 16 total points. Liz Bryson continued her strong play with 7 kills (.375), and Katelyn Bunting added 6 kills and 2 blocks.
The Flyers' serving game remained sharp, with Giannie Small serving 3 aces and Cuddeback adding 2 more alongside a team-best 15 assists. Defensively, Olivia Rosy anchored the back row with 10 digs, while Madison Scheffler controlled the net with 3 block solos.
Sandhills improves to 6-0 on the season and will face their toughest challenge yet on Saturday with two nationally-ranked opponents: Delta College (#15 NJCAA preseason poll) at 9 a.m. and College of DuPage (#3) at 12:30 p.m.
