Flyers Sign Union Pines Libero Katie Burley
Sandhills Community College Volleyball is excited to announce the signing of Union Pines libero/defensive specialist Katie Burley to the 2026 Flyers roster.
Burley brings ten years of experience and a steady defensive presence to Sandhills, where she will help strengthen the Flyers' back row. The 5'5" All-Conference standout played a key role in Union Pines' impressive 24–3 season and has long been connected to the local volleyball community through AC Sandhills and the Flyers Beach Volleyball Club.
Burley chose to continue her career at Sandhills because of the environment and the people who make up the program. She plans to major in education on her way to becoming a teacher and is excited to meet new teammates, learn from a new coaching staff, and take the next step in both her academic and athletic development. Katie shared that her favorite part of volleyball has always been the friendships it creates, something she looks forward to continuing at SCC.
Union Pines head coach Felicia Marks praised Burley's impact and long-term dedication:
"Katie Burley is the kind of athlete every coach hopes to have—driven, competitive, and constantly working to elevate her game. From her freshman year to her senior year, she has been nothing short of amazing for our program. Her athleticism, court awareness, and willingness to put in the extra work make her not only an incredible volleyball player but a true game-changer. There is no doubt she will continue to excel and make an immediate impact at Sandhills."
AC Sandhills Club Director Dennie McLaughlin echoed that excitement:
"Katie brings so much passion, energy, and high-level work ethic every time she steps on the court. She'll be a great addition to the Flyers and will push everyone around her to raise their level. We can't wait to watch her compete next fall."
Flyers Head Coach Alicia Riggan is thrilled to add Burley to the back-row unit:
"Katie Burley is a huge pickup for our program. Her volleyball IQ, communication, and all-out defensive effort set her apart. She plays with edge and intensity, and we can't wait to see her thrive in our Flyer family."
