The Sandhills Community College volleyball team opened its home doubleheader on Saturday with a 3-1 victory over USC Sumter. The Flyers won by set scores of 25-22, 25-23, 18-25, and 25-21.
Sandhills (12-0) used a balanced attack with 38 team kills and 11 service aces. Taylor Miller led the offense with 10 kills on a .333 hitting percentage, while Brooke Emore added nine kills and 10 digs. Liz Bryson chipped in six kills and a pair of blocks, and freshman Madison Scheffler was efficient at the net with five kills on .455 hitting to go along with four solo blocks.
Setter Averi Cuddeback kept the offense rolling with 24 assists, two aces, and eight digs, while Reagan Malpass dished out 11 assists and added two aces of her own. Libero Olivia Rosy anchored the defense with 19 digs, and Jacque Holden provided eight digs and two service aces.
The Flyers finished with 11.5 total blocks as a team, led by Scheffler and Katelyn Bunting, who combined for seven.
In the afternoon matchup, Sandhills completed the sweep of its home doubleheader, defeating Southwest Virginia Community College 3-1 (25-13, 25-23, 25-8, 25-22).
The Flyers were dominant offensively, finishing with 55 kills and a .225 hitting percentage. Emore powered the attack with a match-high 18 kills and 20 digs for a double-double, while Miller added 10 kills on .364 hitting. Bunting was equally effective with nine kills, seven digs, and two blocks.
Cuddeback directed the offense with 31 assists and added four service aces, while Malpass tallied 17 assists and five digs. Defensively, Rosy was outstanding in the back row with 28 digs, and Holden contributed 12 digs and two aces.
At the net, Bryson and Scheffler combined for nine kills and three blocks, while the Flyers totaled 9.0 blocks as a team.
The Flyers are on the road Monday at Wake Tech at 6pm and will return home on Saturday September 13th to take on Caldwell at 11am and USC Salkehatchie at 3pm.
