The Sandhills Community College Flyers opened their season with a commanding 3-0 victory over Guilford Technical Community College on Thursday night inside The Hangar. The Flyers wasted no time setting the tone, taking the first set 25-10 before rolling through the next two sets 25-8 and 25-12.
Sophomore outside hitter Brooke Emore led the offense with 10 kills, hitting an impressive .571 on the night. Setter Averi Cuddeback fueled the attack with six assists and added six service aces, helping the Flyers keep the pressure on Guilford Tech throughout the match. Jacque Holden contributed five aces and seven digs as Sandhills controlled both the net and the service line.
The night also marked a special return for sophomore Megan Robinson, who stepped back onto the court for the first time since recovering from an ACL injury. "It's so good to be back and with an amazing team," Robinson said after the match. "It's hard wanting to play and physically not being able to, so being on the court last night was an almost surreal feeling. I know that I had missed playing, but I didn't realize that having people there to cheer us on and having that electric atmosphere was something that I had missed as well. I'm so excited for this season! Winning last night's game was the first of many Ws, and I'm so thankful that I got to be part of it!"
With the win, Sandhills starts the season 1-0 and will look to carry that momentum into their weekend match-ups with Louisburg College at 11am and USC Union at 3pm on Saturday in The Hangar.
