Lady Flyers Sign Whiteville Defensive Specialist Charlotte Herring

Lady Flyers Sign Whiteville Defensive Specialist Charlotte Herring

Charlotte Herring of Whiteville High School has signed a letter-of-intent to become a member of the Sandhills Community College volleyball team in the fall.

The 5-foot-6 defensive specialist is a versatile player who was an All-Three Rivers Conference honorable mention selection as a junior and a senior. She was among the team leaders in digs, assists and service aces for a Wolfpack squad that was 17-3 last season and compiled a record of 34-7 in the last two seasons combined.

"Playing volleyball beyond high school is a dream come true," she says. "When I learned Sandhills had a culinary arts program it was a no-brainer. I knew where I wanted to be."

The daughter of Patrick and Ryan Herring has also been a member of the soccer team at Whiteville. Her high school activities include membership in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. This month she will begin her second season as a member of the Myrtle Beach Volleyball Club U-18 Power/Elite team.

As a Lady Flyer, Herring will be reunited with former Whiteville teammate Lilli Inman who earned All-Region X first team honors as an outside hitter for Coach Alicia Riggan's squad last season.

"We are excited to add Charlotte Herring to our fall 2019 roster," Riggan says. "Charlotte can play any position and is a very competitive and smart player. She will help run the back line for the Flyers."

Joining Riggan and Herring's parents for the signing at Whiteville High School were Wolfpack coach Greer Inman, athletic director David Smith and principal Michael Hobbs.
